I am a 5th generation resident of the keys and have a long history of public service to our community.
I returned to Monroe County after graduating from University of Florida Law School, and served as Deputy Monroe County Attorney.I was named by Governor Bob Graham to our college's board of trustees, where I served as chair.In 1986, I ran for, and won, the Florida House Legislative District 120 seat, which consists of all of Monroe County and part of Dade County.
After 4 years i was appointed chair of the house appropriations committee in charge of the state budget and gained a reputation as a fiscal conservative who worked well with members of both political parties.I sponsored the "Save Our Homes Bill" , which capped increases on homestead values.
I also sponsored and passed the first "Everglades Protection Act", which helped protect the Everglades. I was twice named by an independent panel as the most effective member of the Florida House.As your next Supervisor of Elections you can trust me to fairly and impartially conduct safe and secure elections for Monroe County Voters.
